To Be Young, Gifted, and COVID-Free: Stopping the Spread and Safeguarding Our Futures

“To Be Young, Gifted, and COVID-Free” was a town-hall style event held on October 14, 2021. Hosted by Alive & In Color in partnership with Georgia Community Engagement Alliance Against COVID-19 (CEAL), young adults, along with medical experts and youth advocates, shared solutions that leveraged the collective power of our most promising voices to create COVID-free futures.

Description: As debates about mask mandates and vaccines continue to make headlines, our youth and young adults are getting caught even further in the cross-hairs of politics and misinformation. However, the tenacity and resilience that our young people continue to demonstrate — not only in a pandemic but also in the midst of global movements demanding social equity, justice, and accountability — it is clear that they are at the forefront of extraordinary change. At the same time, many of our unvaccinated youth and young adults are still unaware of the threats they pose to the health and livelihood of their communities. It’s time we empower young people with the information and resources they need, to make informed decisions about vaccination, and to help drive vaccine uptake through conversations that matter.

Panel Topics:
– Educating young people on their role in community transmission
– Empowering individuals to help stop the spread
– Mobilizing young community leaders
– Acknowledging the “third epidemic” of COVID’s toll on mental health
– Hearing from a young, gifted COVID survivor
